Life Update - From Lawyer to Full Time TikTok-er, Wedding Planner, Dog Mom, Etc.

She’s BaaaAaaAack (TikTok reference 1 of 1 million)

Where do I begin?

After law school, I took down my blog, Slightly Above Average. I didn’t want potential employers to see it, I didn’t think it was professional, blah blah blah. A lot has happened since then. I passed the bar exam, worked for two law firms, got engaged, went a little viral on TikTok, quit my job.

That last part is a little misleading. This is not a full-time thing (yet). I am not Alix Earle (yet), and I am definitely not the TikTok-er who bought herself a Land Rover and a house in the Hamptons on the same day (again, yet). But I was feeling stuck in my career and simultaneously started making a little money from social media. I figured if I was ever going to get the opportunity to take a step back from the lawyer life, it was now.

I am not sure what my future as a lawyer looks like. For now, I am happy to be diving back into writing.  I am SO out of practice.  Legal writing is its own animal, and I have definitely lost my  voice a bit. Even writing this is difficult and awkward. But practice makes perfect.

I’ve been learning so much about social media, TikTok, influencers, etc. It’s a pretty incredible and complex industry. Only a short time ago we were buying products based on television advertisements. Now we base our consumerism on real people who have let us into their lives and homes. Community has become the hottest commodity.

I was around fifteen when Instagram really started to grow. People posted only their most aesthetically pleasing photos. Those who grew on Instagram did so because their life was admirable, not necessarily relatable.  But in recent years, relatability has made a comeback thanks to TikTok. Creators are posting products they can’t live without and products that are overhyped. They’re calling out outdated ideas,   and even the justice system. The Menendez Brothers can thank TikTok for the reexamination of their first-degree murder convictions 28 years after the brothers were sentence to life without parol for the murder of their parents.

I want this iteration of the blog to have more depth.  I will still be sharing things like my Amazon favorites, my skin care routine, and law school tips, but I also want to challenge myself by providing you with insight into world news, popular culture, maybe even some legal news. And of course there will be tons of wedding planning content. We all know I love to plan a party, and I have been having the time of my life planning my biggest one yet.  I cannot believe we are only TEN months out . Time really does fly.

As always, I’d love to hear from you. Let me know what you want to read and all feedback.

IM EXCITED, GUYS!
